The Best Song of all time cont...

Number 9: Santeria by Sublime
The chorus is so catchy and everyone knows the words. The solo is amazing and it is just a happy song. "Cause I don't practice Santeria, I ain't got no crystal ball...I feel the break, feel the break, and I gotta live it up, yea but I swear but I..." yea, you all know the rest. You can't go wrong with Sublime.

Number 8: Wild Horses by The Rolling Stones and also covered by Bush
Okay, this is one of those songs that will make you cry with happiness. Though I personally do not like the original as much as Bush's cover, I still praise the Rolling Stones for making this masterpiece. I still to this day have no idea what it is about., but all I know is it makes me listen and admire. This song deserves to be in the top 25 without a doubt.

Number 7: #41 by Dave Matthews Band
It makes me sick to my stomach the mainstream hates Dave Matthews, mainly because his style is so different from anyone else. He is in a sense his own genre and he is amazing. This song was on his breakthrough album "Crash." There is something about the guitar riff and something about the way he sings it that gives me goosebumps. There is a lot of mystery to the song because of it's title and because it's hard to figure out what it's about. This is what makes it so great. Also, this song is SOOOOO much better live. Many may not agree with me, but it grows on you. It's another hidden gem.

Number 6: Black by Pearl Jam
Yes, the song on the album Ten and probably their most emotional song that wasn't a single because Eddie Vedder called it "too personal." Vedder has one of the best voices in rock and here it is evident why. He cries for love when his entire world has turned to black. It is just so gripping and so powerful. You can't go wrong with this song.

Number 5: November Rain by Guns N' Roses
This is in my opinion, Axl Rose's best vocal performance. The piano intro is incredible, as well as the epic Slash shredding solo at the end. The song is about love and it's just one of those songs that never gets old. Everyone knows this song. This is their most emotional and their most gripping song to date and it was made at the height of their popularity. I can't praise it enough.

Number 4: Landslide by Fleetwood Mac/Stevie Nicks
"Well Ive been, afraid of changes, cause I lived my life around you. And the landslide will bring it down...can I sail through the changing ocean tides, can I handle the seasons of my life." This is THE song of life. It describes how every human being is afraid of changing and moving on. It is so sad and yet so effective. It says "I'm getting older" and no matter how old this song gets, it will always be evident in any time. This is a song that will last forever. The guitar is also incredible in this one.

Number 3: Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin
Yes, everyone calls it the greatest song of all time, but I do not believe it is. And the only reason is because everyone says it is. Yes, this is the ideal song, it has a slow beginning and it picks up with every verse, until finally it unleashes an orgasmic solo and Robert Plant's famous "To be a rock and not ROOOLLLLLLL!!!" It has some of the best lyrics ever written by any band and it just has that life long lasting effect. This song is perfect, but I can't place it number 1 just because it is so popular. But, I do give credit to the greatest band for making this masterpiece.

Number 2: Kashmir by Led Zeppelin
This song is just plain epic. It has one of the best guitar riffs in history and Robert Plant just has so much vocal range in this song that is unmatched by anyone. He even said himself that Kashmir is the definition of what Led Zeppelin was all about. He was probably right. The drums are amazing, the guitar is amazing and even though the song has no solo, it doesn't need it. Its eight minutes of awesomeness that is unlike any other song I have ever heard.

Number 1: I Honestly don't know

There are too many songs I love that I cannot possibly decide what is the best song of all time. Some of my choices are "Blackbird" by the Beatles and "Yesterday" by the Beatles but that's just gonna piss people off. Plus, this list are MY favorite 24 of all time, which doesn't really mean much. But, I'm gonna leave this one to you to decide, because there is no truth in what is the best of all time.

The Best Song of All Time Cont...

Number 14: Danny's Song By Loggins and Messina
Such a happy and beautiful song. It tells the story of how love trumps all and it is sung so awesomly by Kenny Loggins. "Even though we ain't got money, I'm so in love with ya honey and everything will bring a chain of love and in the morning when I rise, you bring a tear and joy to my eyes and tell me everything is gonna be alright."-now isn't that amazing?

Number 13: Glycerine By Bush
Gavin Rosedale has one of the best voices on the planet and here, when he was with his band Bush, they created this awesome grunge song that everybody loves. It is just, awesome. You can't describe it. It's a very simple song with only 4 chords, but it has that emotional and powerful effect on the listener. This is also one of those songs where everybody will instantly recognize it.

Number 12: Two Princes by The Spin Doctors
One of the saddest tragedies in the 90s was the fact the Spin Doctor's never got any recognition from the public. They are truly a very talented band and this song proved that. The singer is incredible and the guitar is outstanding. This is one of those very catchy songs that can't get out of your head. It is AWESOME and deserves it's place in the top 25.

Number 11: That's the Way by Led Zeppelin
This is it, the hidden gem of all the4 Zeppelin songs and one of the simplest and most beautiful acoustic songs of all time. The lyrics are enchanting and the feel of the song is so mesmerizing you can't help but smile and appreciate Led Zeppelin as truly gifted musicians. It is a masterpiece and deserves to be recognized by the public.

Number 10: The Sounds of Silence
Yes, another Simon and Garfunkel masterpiece. Sung so perfectly and the lyrics are so complex and amazing. The thing about the song is, it just keeps going and the pace is kept throughout. The thing about the song is, you can't put it into words. It sends a message...to listen. Just listen to it and you'll see what I mean.

The Best Song of All Time Cont...

Number 19: One By Metallica
In 1991 with the Black Album, many fans of Metallica thought they had sold out as their music had become more mainstream. But, after the death of bassist Cliff Burton in 1986, Metallica created their last true Thrash Metal Album "...And Justice for All," and on that album came One; one of the most badass and amazing metal songs on the planet. This song has it all; an awesome intro, incredible lyrics, and a heart pounding breakdown and solo. This song is fast and ferocious and it is amazing. James Hetfield's voice really shines in this one and Kirk Hammett unleashes one of the fastest and best solo's of all time. This was their swan song, as many fans will agree.

Number 18: Nutshell by Alice in Chains
I have written a post about this song and here it is again. This is one of the most heartfealt songs out there, as only Layne Staley can do it. It is so simple, yet so effective. This song has been covered by loads of bands and people. It is depressing, but it is so good that it just makes me cry with both sadness and happiness. Alice in Chains were true genius and this song proved why. Many won't agree with me, but I guarentee that after a while, this song will grow on you.

Number 17: Us And Them By Pink Floyd
Another song found on Dark Side and it is, in my opinion, the best song on that album. If there was one word to desribe this song, it would be GOOSEBUMPS. The lyrics are that of war and they are hauntingly sung by David Gilmour. It is slow, but it will take you into another world. No more words are needed, just listen to it and you will be amazed.

Number 16: Little Wing By Jimi Hendrix
Many fans of Jimi probably will wonder, "why isn't Voodoo Child on here?" While that song is badass, I can't help but notice that Little Wing is so creative and so short and sweet that I had to reward this as Jimi's best song. The guitar intro is amazing, as are the lyrics and the rest of the song. It ends as quickly as it begins, but in those 2 minutes and 45 seconds, you are left stunned. This song is another mark of genius and a guitar masterpiece.

Number 15: Hotel California by The Eagles
Yep, you all know the epic 3 minute solo and the lyrics and just the pure amazement of this song. It is so popular and deserves every bit of credibility. It is amazing. No explanation needed.

The Best Song of all time

Here it is, the one post I have been most anxious to write. I am planning on making this my longest and most detailed post because this is something that deserves a lot of explanation and analysis. Once again, I know whoever reads this blog is most likely to disagree with my final choice for best song ever because music is all about OPINION, and obviously not everyone is going to agree on everything. But, I plan on listing my top 25 and narrowing it down based on several qualities like musicianship, epicness, emotional feel, and just plain badassery. A lot of songs here you will probably agree with and others you won't. But, I firmly believe all my choices deserve to be in the top 25 and for very good reason. Now, let us begin with 25-20.

Number 25: Under The Bridge by the Red Hot Chili Peppers
This is personally my favorite song of all time. But, this is THE song that made the Chili Peppers famous. It was the one song on Blood Sugar that was so vastly different from the rest. This is not the traditional Chili Peppers funk song, nor is it sung at a fast pace. This was basically a poem written by the singer Anthony about his stuggle with depression and addiciton, and while very simple, is one of the most emotionally effective songs I have ever had the privalege of listening to. It tells of pain and loss and the guitar work, (all composed by John Frusciante) is one of the most under rated and beautifully composed. Everyone sings along to it and it still stands as the Chili Peppers most popular song to date. I may be a little biased, but how can any fan of rock not love this song? It is amazing and deserves it's place in the top 25.

Number 24: For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her by Simon and Garfunkel
Classic rock and or most rock in general generally revolves around the theme of love, either for something or someone. There have been HUNDREDS of long songs composed over the years and most are all emotionally effective. But, this song in particular was sung by one of rock's greatest voices, Art Garfunkel, and acoustically played by another legend Paul Simon. This song is only  2 minutes, but in those 2 minutes, I have never heard such beauty and such soul being expressed at the magnitude by these 2. The lyrics are so well written and the song so well sung, with pure soul. Seriously, these two men are legends. This song is so special because its short and sweet and it tells of real love, not the crap you hear in rap about going to clubs and banging girls, but pure honesty and trance. I cannot possibly describe it anymore without anyone listening to it.

Number 23: Sober by Tool
Many of you may ask, why the hell is this song in the top 25? Well,  because its fucking TOOL, and because this song can have many forms of interpretation. You may think this song is about being sober and hwo drugs destroy you, but it really isn't. The great thing about Tool is all of their songs have different meanings, as Maynard James Keenan has said over the years. This was on their first album "Undertow" and this was the song that made them famous in the progressive metal genre. This song while simple, is sung with such power by Maynard and such force that you can't help but fall in love with the song. It is honest and it makes you think a lot (as do all Tool songs.) Yes, this song isn't for everyone, but for those who understand the genius that is Tool, it is GODLY.

Number 22: Down In A Hole by Alice in Chains
For those who are fans of the 90s Grunge movement, you will all agree this song deserves to be in the top 25. For those who see deep into music and see the amount of pain and honesty that Layne Staley expressed in this song, it will definitely shed a tear. It is so sad, and yet so true to all who have battled depression and drug addiciton. The harmony between Layne and guitarist Jerry Cantrell, "I'd like to fly, but my wings have been so denied." speaks to the millions who feel the same way. No, this band was not mastly popular, and no many do not follow their music or acknowledge it, but please, do yourselves a favor and give this song a listen. Layne had one of the most emotionally gripping and poweful voices of any rock star in history. His death in 2002 was painful and yet, so foreshadowing in this song. That is what makes it so special. I would go on, but I'll leave it to the video clip to do it justice.

Number 21: Time by Pink Floyd
This song was on Dark Side of the Moon and many consider it to be the best song on that album. I believe it isn't, but I can't refuse to acknowledge the message the song sends. It is the song of life and the lyrics are enchanting and the message so true and so profound (that time moves so fast before our eyes). The guitar solo is epic, the lyrics are so...amazing and the two minute intro is something that only Pink Floyd could do. I would hope you have all listened to Dark Side by now, but if you havn't, you should at least listen to this song. It is epic.

Number 20: In My Life by The Beatles
We all know the Beatles were a revolution to the music world and they were just plain amazing. I don't think I can find a bad Beatles song. So many of their songs deserve to be in the top 25, but since there are only 25 choices, I'm gonna have to narrow it down. For me, one of the best songs ever is found on the Rubber Soul album and that is "In My Life." What really makes this song is the beauty of John Lennon singing it and the piano solo-which exhibits such a happy feeling. It's just an amazing short song that summed up what the Beatles were all about. I can't do it any more justice, cause you can't describe genius in words.

Another Hidden Gem...I Could Have Lied

When you got a band full of amazing songs, it is very difficult to find the time to search for those hidden gems. The case I am making is, the Red Hot Chili Peppers are full of amazing songs such as "Under the Bridge," "Give It Away" and "Californication," but many people don't bother listening to many of their other songs. In this case, "I Could Have Lied," a song on Blood Sugar that is probably one of Frusciante's greatest guitar creations to date. This is a beautiful song about losing love and how we tend to question ourselves what we should have done to prevent it. This song is so special because it isn't popular and it is rarely perfomed live. The following clip is a live performance from 2003. John Frusciante really shines in this song. This will probably become one of your personal favorities after several listens.

Nutshell

In 2002, a tragedy struck the rock world. Lead vocalist Layne Staley of Alice in Chains passed away. After nearly eight years of drug abuse, his body had finally given up. But what this man managed to accomplish in his career was nothing short of amazement. He was a pioneer of the Grunge Movement in the 90s and he had one of the most powerful and distinctive voices in rock n roll history. Everyone on this Earth should know who Layne is. A part of what made his music so great was all the honesty and feelings he put in his music. And that brings us to the title of this post, NUTSHELL, one of the simplest and most amazing songs ever created. The song is about drug addiction and the pain it carries. The lyrics are simple and effective and the way Layne sings it will undoubtedly bring a tear to your eye. I love this man for his honesty and ability to perform such a heartfelt song. Even though it is very simple, it's one of those songs where you can see into his soul and how his struggle with addiction was something very hard to comprehend.

The Greatest Album Of All Time

This question has been raised repeatedly over the years and it seems music fans can never decide the right answer. That is because music is all about opinion. There are no facts, just expression and point of view. Anyway, I am going to list my top 5 picks for Best Album ever and I'll leave it to you guys to decide if you agree or not. Some of these choices you have heard before, but that's probably because they are that damn good. Now, let me begin...

Pick 1: Dark Side of The Moon by Pink Floyd
If you haven't heard of this album, shame on you. This was the breakthrough album for Floyd and arguably their best work. The reason being because the amount of thought and talent that went into this album has been largely unmatched by any other band in history. Each and every song tells a story; the story of life. The first track "Speak to Me/Breath" is about coming into the world as a child and as the album progresses, each song addresses other key themes in life. For example, the song "Money" is about greed and how it is human nature to be selfish. Also "Time" is a song addressing how quickly time fly's and how the world just watches it go by. "A Great Gig in the Sky" is one of the most astounding vocal performances in history...nuff said. This album is basically a parody of amazing songs and in essence, a concept album. Many have called it the greatest album of all time, and there is no doubt it is one of, if not, the best ever.

Pick 2: Led Zeppelin II by Led Zeppelin
This was it, 1969 and the second work of one of the greatest bands of all time. This was the album that made kids want to go to the store and purchase electric guitars. Simply put, this album ROCKED!!! Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Paul Jones and Jon Bonham each contributed equally to make this, in my opinion, Zeppelin's best work. Now, for anyone that has listened to this album fully, you will know that not one single song is bad. In fact, every song is AMAZING! It begins with "Whole Lotta Love", one of the bands most recognizable songs and one of Plant's best vocal performances. The guitar riff is a classic and very well known. I can go on and on, but for anyone that has not listened to this masterpiece...what are you waiting for!? This album has "The Lemon Song", which has one of the best bass lines in the history of music. It has "Moby Dick", one of the greatest drum solos ever and not to mention "Heartbreaker" and "What is and What Should Never Be". I can't do this album justice. You just gotta listen to it to appreciate the greatest that was and is, Led Zeppelin.

Pick 3: Blood Sugar Sex Magik by Red Hot Chili Peppers
Now, I didn't pick this album because the Chili Peppers are my favorite band. I picked it because it was one of the most influential albums in the 90s and it stands as the Chili's best work. Each song is vastly different from the rest and the Chili Peppers purposely isolated themselves in a mansion to produce the album and make it the best they possibly could. They succeeded and made one of the most expressive and brilliant pieces of music I have ever had the privilege of listening to. This album includes some of their greatest songs; Under the Bridge, Give it Away, Breaking the Girl and I Could Have Lied to name a few. This was the album that made the Chili's megastars and the one that solidified them as an amazing band that had immense talent. I could go on and on, but I'll just leave saying this album kicks ass.

Pick 4: AEnima By Tool
Another album to come out in the 90s that totally blew fans away. Aenima is a work of genius. It is dark, it is haunting and it shows the immense talent of Maynard James Keenan, one of the greatest vocalists EVER and Danny Carey, the very talented and complex drummer of Tool. This album is one of those albums where each and every song seems to fit perfectly in order and flows so smoothly that by the time the album ends, fans are left stunned with amazement. This album discusses human emotion and how each and every one of us each experience different feelings in life based on a variety of circumstances. Some of the albums highlights are "Stinkfist," "Eulogy," "H," and "Third Eye." If you haven't listened to this album, you better soon because I guarantee you will never be so touched, so amazed, by how one band can generate such power and emotion in your veins. Trust me.

Pick 5: Jar of Flies by Alice in Chains
Now, at this point you can clearly see these choices are not factual. They are simply my opinion backed up with decent reason. Going on...My last pick has to go to Jar of Flies, an album only containing 7 songs and mostly acoustic guitar. But once again, this album has shown me, along with millions of AIC fans, how much talent this band really had. Their 1992 album "Dirt" is considered their best work, but I respectfully disagree because Jar of Flies is an album where the simplest songs proved to be the most emotionally effective. I'm talking about songs like "Rotten Apple" and "Nutshell", two of the most humanly powerful songs in this entire world. The singer Layne Staley was addicted to heroin at the time and all his pain and suffering were expressed in these songs so naturally that the listener can't help but smile and appreciate how beautiful his music was. This is one of the simplest albums in that their isn't much effect or complex musical notes, but simple acoustic material that will leave you speechless. I encourage any fan of music to give this one a try, it is beautiful and meaningful in many ways.

And the Greatest Album of All Time Goes to...
These five albums are personally my favorite of all time. But if I had to pick one that had it all; the musical genius, the passion, the connection, the talent, etc... I would have to go with Led Zeppelin II. This album showcased each instrument so...perfectly. Just listen closely to every note on the album and you will see why Led Zeppelin was and still is, the greatest band to ever walk the Earth. Jimmy Page nailed it here with his complex guitar riffs, Robert Plant railed on vocals and John Paul and Bonham nailed their parts as well. There is a reason why Zeppelin disbanded when John Bonham died...because they couldn't function as a band without all four members. They are legends. They are beast, They are fucking LED ZEPPELIN!
