One of the most popular bands this generation is Coldplay. Fans characterize them as a modern day U2, as their music closely resembles their style. But regardless, Coldplay, in my opinion, are well accomplished musicians who have totally evolved since their debut album "Parachutes" in 2000. They started off as a very mellow and acoustic driven band. All of their songs talked about falling in love and they were either a love or hate band. Still, the voice of Chris Martin and the melodies and rhythm of the band made them immediate fan favorites. One song in particular on that album is "Trouble," a piano driven song about a song figuratively speaking about a spider finding its web. Many original fans of the band call it their best song. Also, in my opinion, there is not one bad song on that album. The album flows perfectly and I truly believe it is their best work. If anyone has an hour to spare, then I would seriously consider them to give this album a listen, as it could be a life changing experience.
After Parachutes, "A Rush of Blood to the Head" was released. This album is also a masterpiece, as it captured Coldplay's original style and turned the volume way up. Once again, the song's are about falling in love and finding peace with yourself and no band, and I mean no band, can make you shed a tear these days like Coldplay can. While many fans consider this their best album, I believe it comes at a close second because it unfortunately lacked acoustic guitar. I will post a link to "Clocks" so everyone can see how different and yet similar this song sounds compared to their first album.
And now, for Viva La Vida. Released in 2008, this is without a doubt their most marketable album to date, as millions of fans around the world have become fans of the band due to this album. And the greatest thing about it is, it is so vastly different from their first 3 albums. The album is essentially a giant history lesson as many of the lyrics explain important historical events around the world and how war and love intertwine. It is too complicated to put into words, so I will post a video of "Violet Hill"-a song about how love is enough for a man to give up on war and politics. It is incredible and show how this band has matured both musically and spiritually.
All in all, Coldplay are well recognized musicians with immense talent and ever changing music. They have a new album underway and I believe this one will be their best work.
