Unplugged

Remember when MTV actually aired music instead of reality shows and whatnot? Those days are long gone, but back in the 90's, famous grunge bands like Nirvana, Alice and Chains and Pearl Jam were invited to play  unplugged concerts (acoustic, no electric) and it would air on MTV. These concerts were considered an honor to be a part of and its no surprise each and every musician that has ever been a part of an unplugged concert gave it 100 percent. In my opinion, each of these specific concerts (Nirvana, AIC and Pearl Jam) were the bands best live performances in their entire careers, as they managed to create a purely emotional and riveting experience for audience members. You could tell each musician was giving it everything they had and they were reaching into the souls of each and every one of their fans. To show this, I have 3 clips from each of the concerts that I believe demonstrate pure emotional expression and talent.

An interesting note is the lead singer Layne Staley was high on heroin. He sadly died 6 years later from drug addiction and you can tell he is screaming from the inside as he performs this song. In my eyes, that just makes this performance that much better.

This concert took place a year before Kurt Cobain killed himself. Many call this the greatest concert of the 90s and its hard to argue, but regardless, Nirvana really showed why they were one of the greatest bands of this era.

This song  is one of Pearl Jam's best and what makes it so good is the fact it was never released as a single, because the lead singer Eddie Vedder considered it "too personal." This song is extremely powerful and this performance shows.
