Hidden Gems

In the world of music, there are songs we like to call, "hidden gems." These are the songs that aren't really popular amongst the public, but are so good that somehow no one bothers to acknowledge them. These songs have a very low fan base and are guaranteed to amaze anyone who takes the time to listen. A couple examples of hidden gems are "That's the Way" by Led Zeppelin and "I Could have Lied" by the Chili Peppers. It's funny because these songs were all on popular albums and yet the more popular songs overshadow them. These songs both have astounding guitar work and lyrics. Why they aren't popular is beyond me. I consider these songs some of the best work these bands have done and are timeless masterpieces. Now, onto the point...

There is a hidden gem in particular that is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. It's a love song with unique guitar work and enchanting lyrics. This is the song "For Emily, Whenever I may find her" by Simon and Garfunkel. I cannot describe how good this song is. The words are so powerful and sung with perfection by Art Garfunkel. This song, while not their most popular, has been covered by many bands and solo artists. But, no one comes close to nailing the song better than John Frusciante. John is former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist and now solo artist. He has covered many songs before, but this one is his hidden gem. His voice is perfect and better yet, he only performs it live. Below are two links to the original by Simon and Garfunkel and a live version by John. I'll let you be the judge.
